Hello! Thank you for visiting our new website! This year ZCU is setting some large goals for our success. Creating a new website (if you never saw our old website, congrats on avoiding a serious computer virus) will increase our community presence and will not only spark the alumni involvement, it will be instrumental in securing the support we need to make a run at nationals.
We will occasionally post updates on recent tournaments, show case games, fundraisers, ultimate affair, and much more to this page. As you may notice, this is a blog page, and you are welcome to ask questions, create discussion, and show your support in the comments. For our more unruly alumni, please keep it PG-13 as this website will be shared with the University. We would hate to have to use any of your more immature comments in order to blackmail you into donating more at the next ultimate affair. In addition, we will be sending out a newsletter quarterly to give updates on the season and any events coming up, as well as present feature pieces on freshman, seniors, and alumni. If you are an alumni and would like to be featured or write a piece for a newsletter, please contact us! The first newsletter will be sent out on August 15th to a list of emails that we have compiled from alumni and ultimate affair attendees. If you do not get this email, but would like to in the future, please contact us. You can always find the newest updates and the newsletter here, and on our social media. A quick update on the current news with ZCU. We ended our season last year breaking seed and placing 4th at NW regionals, one spot outside of natties. (Quick shout out to SJU for also making it to the game to go. Utah Ultimate is really good right now.) While natties was our goal, we were pleased with the result, as our expectations were intentionally set high for the first season with a new coach, Brook Martin. Plagued by injuries late in the season, it was very apparent in the game to go that we had run out of legs. This will not be a problem this year as our conditioning regimen will be heightened. The elected captains for the 2019-2020 season are Kevin Castell, Simon Greenhalgh, and Nathan Huff. Brook, Bugden, and Eric will all be returning to coach again. The goals for leadership over the summer include revamping our presence on social media and in the community (hence the fancy website), recruitment and retention of incoming freshman, and whipping our asses into shape. For a majority of the team, the first part of the summer has been spent rehabbing after a brutal end of season. Preparation for the 2020 spring season starts now with strength and conditioning. Many ZCU players will also be playing for Powderhogs this club season. The 2019-2020 season is going to be a turning point for ZCU; going from a team that consistently competes at regionals, to a team that competes at nationals. We are really excited to get started and we hope you are too. Thank you for supporting ZCU and keep checking in for more updates throughout the year! -Castell |
